Did you know?
A distant origin
It’s a descendant of Nordic ponies from the tundra that covered ice-free regions in Northern Europe. It came via prehistoric Scandinavia, thousands of years ago, before the British islands were separated from the continent during the last glaciation. The race was introduced in the Shetland Islands 3,000 years ago by Norwegian colonists!

Children are fans!
It has the status of a domestic animal, and is raised throughout the world today. Thanks to its calm nature, cheerful and docile, it gets along well with children. It should be mentioned, though, that it can be lively and stubborn. Therefore, a minimum of experience is necessary for handling it!

Scientific name :
Equus ferus caballus
The Shetland is a British horse race, and one of the smallest equines in the world. Proportionally to its mass, it is the most powerful horse that exists. It’s one of the rare equines that can stand a range of temperatures throughout the year. Cold and extreme temperatures don’t affect it at all! The density of its hair allows it to resist very low temperatures.
