Domestic Pig

Did you know?

Its’ cousins: farm pigs and wild boar

Domestic pigs belong to the same species as farm pigs and wild boar, so they can be crossbred.

Let’s hope

A sub-species that’s beginning to be protected

The native sub-species of domestic pigs only existed in the mountainous regions of Vietnam and Thailand. The Vietnamese government has begun to financially help local breeders who still breed native domestic pigs. These pigs reproduce less easily than others. It was urgent that help came to these breeders in order to help preserve the species.

Sus Domesticus

Domestic pigs come from a cross between different pigs from Vietnam and Southeast Asia. Their relationship to bred pigs is similar to ponies’ relationship to horses.
